Medium & Heavy Steel Plate Welding
Joining strengths, creating lasting bondsOur welding capabilities encompass a wide range of techniques and processes, allowing us to deliver high-quality, durable joints for various metal types and applications. We specialize in MIG, TIG, and stick welding, enabling us to cater to projects that require different strengths, materials, and quality levels. Whether it's medium steel plate welding, heavy steel plate welding, or the fabrication of large weldments, our expertise ensures reliable and precise results for all types of welding projects.
Precision Welding Services You Can Rely On
Structural welds hold entire assemblies together, so precision matters more than speed. Our welding services give engineers and procurement teams a partner who reads prints, holds tolerance, and delivers parts that pass inspection the first time. We check every print for heavy equipment frames, custom brackets, and structural components before anything ships.
MIG, TIG & Robotic Welding for Every Application
The right weld starts with the right process. We choose MIG, TIG, or robotic welding based on the metal, the joint design, and how many parts you need.
- MIG Welding: structural frames, base plates, and heavy assemblies that need a strong, consistent bead.
- TIG Welding: thin-gauge components, stainless parts, and jobs where the finished weld has to look as clean as it performs.
- Robotic Welding: repeat parts and production runs where every unit has to match the last one exactly.
Welding with Precision & Passion
With extensive experience in heavy machinery, agriculture implementations, and forestry products, IMF is well equiped to tackle fabricating complex components. With IMF's ability to utilizes various welding techniques, like MIG, TIG, and stick welding, we can ensuring precision and durability in every project.

Frequently Asked Questions
What materials and thicknesses are you equipped to handle?
We weld plate between a quarter-inch and six inches thick, covering medium and heavy plate work in one shop.
- Materials: Carbon Steel (A36, HSLA, Alloy Q&T), Stainless Steel, Aluminum, and Abrasion-Resistant plate.
- On-hand inventory: A 5,000 sq. ft. material warehouse keeps stock ready, cutting lead time on your project.
Do you have the capacity for large-scale or heavy weldments?
Yes. Our 30,000-square-foot South Bend facility gives us three 40-foot-high bays for oversized assemblies and overhead cranes that move and position heavy components safely through welding and machining.
What quality certifications does IMF Midwest hold?
We hold ISO 9001:2015 certification, and our welders work to AWS D1.1 and D1.6 standards for structural and stainless steel projects. CMM technology verifies every part to an accuracy of 0.005 inches.
Can you provide machining and finishing for welded parts?
Yes. We keep machining and finishing in-house, so your parts never leave our building between processes.
- CNC Machining: Our machine shop handles CNC turning and multi-axis vertical milling right after welding.
- Metal Cutting: Plasma, laser, and oxy-fuel (flame) cutting, all in high definition.
- Finishing: Powder coating, plating, and surface prep.
What industries do you typically serve?
Construction, agriculture, defense, mining, and forestry companies all rely on our welding and fabrication services. We handle single complex prototypes and repeat high-volume production runs with the same process control.
